Episode Notes

Across Mid-South Food Bank's 31-county service area, the food insecurity rate has gradually declined.

-In 2017, the Food insecurity rate, according to Feeding America, was 20 percent, or 404,470 people.

-In 2018, the Food Insecurity rate was 19 percent or 391,050 people.

-In 2019, the rate is 18.9 percent or 370,370 people.

- The economy overall has helped lower the food insecurity rate. So too has the Food Bank's aggressive distribution, starting more than one year before it moved into its new 148,000 square foot headquarters.

The Food Bank is getting more pounds of food distributed through an increase in its monthly mobile pantry distributions. This has been aided by collaborations with partners in the health care sector and others.

The Food Bank is targeting help in through many of these distributions toward Senior Citizens, a growing sub-population needing help. It is reaching more of them by taking food to seniors who live in senior high-rise apartments and have not transportation to get to a pantry.
